Guy Miller, MD, PhD Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Edison Pharmaceuticals
Guy Miller, M.D., Ph.D., is the co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Edison Pharmaceuticals. He is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine/Palo Alto Veterans Administration Medical Center, and attends patients in medical-surgical critical care. Dr. Miller is a co-founder of the Center for Bioenergetics, The Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, where he currently holds an appointment as Clinical Faculty Member. Dr. Miller is an Adjunct Professor, University of North Carolina, School of Public Health. Prior to founding Edison, he founded Galileo Pharmaceuticals, and was its Chairman and CEO from 1995-2005. Dr. Miller completed a surgical internship at the University of Chicago, and residency in anesthesiology & critical care medicine, and fellowship in multidisciplinary critical care at Johns Hopkins, where he was an Assistant Professor until 1995. Dr Miller holds an MD from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Virginia. Dr. Miller’s area of expertise is in the discovery and translation of redox-based mitochondrial targeted therapeutics.

William Shrader, PhD Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. William Shrader is the Vice President of Research and Development at Edison Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Shrader leads the Chemistry, Biology and ADME research teams towards the goal of commercializing redox-active pharmaceuticals. Dr. Shrader has previously held positions at Abbott Laboratories and Celera Genomics, where he gained extensive experience in medicinal chemistry, having directed programs in thrombosis, oncology and inflammation. While at Celera, Dr. Shrader was at the forefront of the -omics revolution (Genomic, SNP and Proteomic) in the drug discovery and clinical diagnostic fields. Dr. Shrader is the author on more than 20 peer reviewed journal articles in the field of drug discovery. Dr. Shrader obtained his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Shrader was a National Institute of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology.

Gloria Pfister, PhD Vice President, Intellectual Property
Dr. Gloria Pfister is Vice President of Intellectual Property at Edison Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Pfister has substantial experience in patent drafting and patent prosecution, as well as in patentability, validity, and freedom to operate searching in the chemical and biotechnology arts, particularly in the field of pharmaceutically relevant small molecule compositions and formulations. Prior to joining Edison, Dr. Pfister had previously held positions as a patent searcher at Syntex, and as a patent agent at Roche Bioscience, Galileo Pharmaceuticals and Élan Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Pfister received her PhD in the field of organic chemistry from the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zürich, Switzerland, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Pfister is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Matthias Schramm, PhD
Prof. Matthias Schramm, Ph.D. is professor of physiology at the medical school of the University of Cologne, Germany and provides strategic and drug development counseling to Edison Pharmaceuticals. Prof. Schramm has worked for nearly 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Before his retirement from Bayer AG, Germany after 25 years of service, Prof. Schramm held different positions, including eight years as head of cardiovascular research and general pharmacology with the company. He was responsible for the strategic planning and development of more than 20 compounds, where several of them achieved Phase II/III status and 3 were launched into market. During the last 5 years, Prof. Schramm has served as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies, among them Protinac GmbH, Galileo Pharmaceuticals, Creatogen Laboratories, Altana AG, and Nycomed GmbH. Dr. Schramm received his diploma in mathematics ("Diplom-Mathematiker"), his PhD in applied nuclear physics, and his "Habilitation" (extended Thesis to become a professor) in physiology from the University of Cologne, Germany.
